Command An Army Attack & Defense Guide

Move through capture objectives as an attacker or hold their approaches as a defender. Use a practical Command An Army checklist for each role.

Reviewed · Independent fan guide

Attackers pursue the active capture objective; defenders oppose that progress. Arrive ready to help, choose fights that serve the objective, and read its state after an engagement before chasing or moving on.

Use the current marker to choose your route. A fight can go well while your next movement still leaves the important position exposed.

Make the next movement deliberate

You arrive alone.

Where is the supporting force?

The enemy withdraws.

What does a chase leave behind?

The marker stays unchanged.

What does the objective display require?

A new marker appears.

Who is ready to move?

Work through an attack or defense

  1. Read the assignment and marker together

Identify what your side currently needs to take or protect. Do not assume a familiar point letter is always the next destination.

  2. Inspect the approach

Notice where teammates and enemy troops are positioned. Pick somewhere to gather before the fight. Shorten a stretched-out arrival before committing to an engagement.

  3. Attack for access to useful ground

Fight the opposition preventing your side from reaching its objective. Before pursuing a withdrawal, compare the chase with staying available for the point.

  4. Defend the current approach

Choose a position that can answer incoming pressure. Recheck its facing as the fight changes. Moving after a retreating opponent may expose the place your team needs to protect.

  5. Read the result before rotating

Check the ownership, progress or contested wording the match displays. A won duel does not establish that capture is complete. Gather your troops before following an updated marker.

Keep the current assignment in view

  • Role: Read your attacker or defender assignment.
  • Task: Locate the active objective marker.

Common mistakes

  • Judging a push only by kills. Check the ground and objective state afterward.
  • Following one isolated teammate. Look at the rest of the force before committing.
  • Defending an old approach. Reassess when pressure changes direction.

Questions before you play

Is the capture route always the same?

Follow the live marker; earlier examples do not establish one sequence for every map.

Should attackers sometimes hold ground?

Yes, when keeping a position helps the push or lets teammates arrive.

Should defenders chase a retreat?

Compare the chase with the response it removes from the active point.

Why did winning a duel not capture the point?

The personal fight and objective state are separate checks. Read what the match still asks you to do.
